KEEPING YOUR HAIR CLEAN,
SOFT, AND TANGLE-FREE
WASH UP—
To help prevent deep tangles and matting, brush extensions with a wet brush or Sheila Stotts removal brush before showering.
Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to prolong your hair and extension color. Davines OI shampoo and conditioner is a great combo.
Shampoo gently between the rows, no need for vigorous scrubbing.
Replace your regular conditioner with Mr. Smith Luxury Masque once a week to keep extensions soft and hydrated.
Immediately after showering and before using your WetBrush or Sheila Stotts brush, apply Davines OI All-In-One Milk as a leave in conditioner.
When brushing wet hair, start from your ends and work your way up to the scalp. Hold the hair in one hand (pinched into a ponytail) and brush sections downward. When moving up to the base of your hair hold the tops of the wefts with your finger tips to prevent pulling on your natural hair.
STYLE ON—
Using only your fingers to move and separate hair, blow-dry your hair 80% of the way. No tugging at the extensions with a round brush or comb—gently use your hands or fingers instead (do not use a round brush from start to finish). The last few minutes of the blow-dry, you can use a round brush and a small amount of tension to smooth your hair and extension hair.
Make sure to communicate these tips to any other person/stylist working on your hair—blowout and dry bars included.
Before curling your extensions, run the extension hair through the curling iron once or twice to smooth it. This will give your extensions a more polished look. I recommend the GHD Curve Soft Curl curling iron at the 1.25 inch size—it’s fantastic at smoothing the cuticle and giving an effortless curl.
DAY TWO Feel free to use Mr. Smith Serum on second-day hair to keep extension hair soft and nourished.
MAKE NOTE—
After a few washes, the extension hair will expand, taking on a more realistic hair texture.
If you notice any excess tangling or hair shedding, contact your stylist right away—when addressed early, these are quick fixes.
You can live an active lifestyle with hand-tied extensions, just remember they need a little love and tenderness to stay looking their best. Think: low ponytails, gentle braids, minimize tugging and pulling as much as possible.
NEVER EVER let sunscreen or suntan oil containing AVOBENZONE touch your extensions—they will turn peach. Strange but true. Self tanners and spray tans can also cause discolorations.
Do not exercise or go swimming in salt water or chlorine with your hair in a braid or braids. This can cause extreme matting.
